Three Ideas for Days out in Gloucestershire over the Summer

Finding things to do in the summer holidays can be a challenge, but as the weather is at its best, why not go out and about as much as possible. Going outside in the fresh air is good for both the mind and the body, and in Gloucestershire there are plenty of things for everyone to enjoy over the summer months in the great outdoors…

Outdoor Swimming – One of the best times of the year to enjoy swimming is in the summer, as this is when Britain’s Lidos really come into their own. Swimming outdoors always feels good, and in Cheltenham you can do just that at the Cheltenham lido. This large open-air pool is a great place to go on a summer’s day, where the whole family can be entertained and enjoy a swim, as well as snacks from the café.

If you want to take swimming outdoors a step further, you could even try wild swimming, but do your research before you go, always be safe and make sure that children are fully supervised in the water. Nature in Art – Combining art and nature, this is a great place to go for a day out, and as well as the many paintings, sculptures and other artworks on display, there is usually plenty going on for both kids and adults, especially over the school holidays. The Forest of Dean – The forest of Dean has numerous places where you can enjoy the great outdoors in many ways. The ever-popular Go Ape is a great way to see the forest from the treetops, from a segway or by mountain biking, but if you want something a little less adrenaline fuelled the sculpture trail at Speech house is a firm favourite with families. Another popular place to go in the Forest is Puzzle wood, an intriguing ancient woodland that is beautiful and has been featured in many television shows and films – it is said that it inspired Tolkien when he wrote the Hobbit.
