Here are some of the reasons that repairing cracked plaster is important.

Aesthetics – one of the most obvious reasons is that it looks attractive and can cause your paint and wallpaper to start to peel away from the walls, which then makes the cracks even more noticeable.

Paint durability – when painting on top of plaster you want to know that the paint is going to last and look attractive for many years to come. When the plaster underneath is cracked it can prevent the paint from absorbing fully into the wall and the cracks can become more obvious with coloured paint on top of them.

Safety – one of the more serious reasons to have your cracked plaster repaired is that it can be a safety hazard, particularly if this is plaster on the ceiling. Falling plaster can cause injuries to those who are hit. This can become more of an issue if the crack is large in size and is occurring down a complete section of the wall or ceiling.

In most cases, a professional plasterer will be able to repair cracks in the plaster very easily and cover this with paint. Once they have finished you won’t be able to tell there was ever a crack there in the first place.
