What can cause your pipes to become clogged?

Having an overflowing sink, bath or worse, the toilet is no fun and will often require the need to call an Emergency Plumber Cheltenham professional such as those from HPR to come out and figure out what is causing the blockage and allow the water to flow freely away once more.

There are a number of reasons why you can experience blockage and clogged pipes and in most cases, there are things that you can do to help prevent the issue from happening.

Hair – in the cases of your bath and shower plugs you can find that hair can cause a block and prevent the water from flowing away. This can then join together with the soap and shampoo that you use and often creates a bigger blockage in the pipe.

Food – in a similar way to hair, food items can cause blockages in your pipes and these can then join with any fat and grease that you have poured down the sink and cause what is known as ‘fatbergs’ to appear. These are solid masses that often cause the water to flow back up out of the plughole and can also cause awful smells to emanate from the sink.

Non-flush products – toilets are often clogged with a build-up of too much toilet paper as well as those products that should not be flushed away such as cotton wool, nappies and sanitary products.
