Christmas Hazards to Watch out for if you Have a Dog

It’s nearly Christmas and we are all planning our Christmas presents that we will be getting for our family and friends – and not forgetting our four-legged friends! Many people treat their dogs around Christmas to gifts from dog Christmas stockings to Iwoof designer dog collars.

Dogs are a big part of our family – but at Christmas as well as all of the festivities, we must remember to keep our dogs safe, as at this time of the year there are a lot of hazards in the home that can cause problems for your pets.

Chocolate -Tasty chocolate treats fill our homes at Christmas and we often hang them from the tree – but this is dangerous for a dog. It contains theobromine which can lead to sickness, palpitations and death in dogs so keep chocolate well away from where it may be found.

Raisins – Lots of festive foods contain raisins but this is another big non no for dogs. Even a tiny amount can cause serious harm and result in kidney failure, so keep a close eye on Christmas cake, mince pies and of course those chocolate coated raisins.

Christmas plants – Holly, Ivy and Poinsettia, as well as mistletoe can all cause an upset tummy for dogs, so keep festive floral displays where your dog can’t get to them.

Decorations – Christmas decorations look pretty but if your dog gets curious and fancies a snack, they can do a lot of damage internally.
