Academia
While you may choose not to work in a London law firm, you can educate those who do by remaining in education. By working in education or academia, you can help produce the next generation of lawyers.
Compliance Officer
If you like the idea of working in a company that might have a similar working atmosphere to a London law firm, consider a financial services company. They need legal expertise to ensure that they are compliant with FCA regulations.
Legal publishing
Your law degree will have given you considerable expertise in the law, so consider putting it to use in publishing. Whether as a writer, editor, or commissioning manager, your love for both the law and the written word will be helpful.
Town planner
The negotiating and communication skills gained during your law degree lend themselves well to becoming a chartered town planner. You will need additional qualifications, such as an RTPI-accredited postgraduate degree, before putting those combined skills to use in aspects of local businesses and institutions.
Politics
The knowledge of local and international laws and years spent studying legal texts provide a sound foundation for a career in politics. And it may take you to the highest levels. Sir Kier Starmer came from a law career. As did former prime ministers, Tony Blair, Margaret Thatcher and Herbert Henry Asquith.
