We all love a chunky winter bobble hat, but who knew that the bobble on the top was the result of just a few minutes’ crafting? Making pompoms is one of the easiest imaginable craft projects; what’s more, it is super-fun. Let’s take a look at the process.
Easier than you think
To make a pompom, you only really need one thing: your material. An easy material to start with is a simple https://www.woolcouturecompany.com/collections/aran-yarn. You might see plastic pom pom makers for sale in the craft section of your favourite shop or you may see homemade cardboard ones suggested; however, the truth is that neither of these is strictly necessary, as you can simply use your hand.
Simply trap one end of your Aran yarn between your middle and ring fingers. Squeeze them tightly so the yarn doesn’t slip out, as you are now going to wrap the yarn – not too tightly, but not too loose – around the base of all four fingers. Continue looping it around your hand approximately 140 times depending on the thickness of the wool: chunkier yarns will require fewer loops, whereas fine yarns may need more).
Once you have done this, cut the yarn off by the palm of your hand. Grab hold of the other end, which was between your fingers. Bring this through to the palm of your hand and pull the two ends together tightly, knotting the two together.
The fun bit

Keep snipping until all the loops have been cut. By now, you should have a slightly messy-looking pompom. All you need to do now is give your new pompom a trim so that each strand of Aran yarn is the same length and your pom pom has that lovely fuzzy round look.
